Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a detached house converted into flats on Arran Road, Catford.
Part of the staircase between the ground and first floors was damaged by the fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one person from the first floor via an internal staircase. They were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews for smoke inhalation. Two further people were rescued from the ground floor of the flat by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and eight people left the building before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade were called at 0942 and the fire was under control by 1026. Fire crews from Lewisham, Forest Hill, Lee Green, Beckenham and Greenwich fire stations attended.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
