Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a restaurant building with flats above on Montpelier Vale in Blackheath.
A small part of a stairwell between the first and second floor was damaged by the fire. Around 15 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1309 and the fire was under control by 1447. Fire crews from Lee Green, East Greenwich and Sidcup fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
