Firefighters rescued a curious kitten after he got himself trapped behind a washing machine and a wall on Wapping Wall in Wapping.
Sub Officer Marc Sargent, who was at the scene, said: “When we arrived the owner told us that her 12-week-old kitten, who she only got that day, had squeezed behind the toilet and into the wall cavity. After having a good look and removing the bath panel, we heard a gentle meow coming from the kitchen.
“We managed to gain access behind the washing machine and found the frightened little kitten had gotten himself stuck. He was safely passed over to the owner who was hugely relieved.
“We would always encourage people to call the RSPCA in the first instance if they see an animal stuck or in distress.
“Firefighters love animals too and we are always happy to assist if our specialist equipment is required, as in this case.”
The Brigade was called at 2022 and the incident was over for firefighters by 2050. Fire crews from Shadwell fire station attended the scene.
