Firefighters are reminding restaurant and takeaway owners to keep their extraction systems clean after a fire at a fish and chip shop on Turnham Green Terrace in Chiswick.

Part of the ground floor of the mid-terraced shop was damaged by the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade's fire investigators believe the fire was accidental and was caused by a chip fryer left unattended which ignited the oil in it. The fire then spread into the ducting, which had a build up of grease deposits in.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "It's really important for restaurant and takeaway owners to clean the ducting in their extraction systems regularly.

"If you don't, you're at a greater risk of ducting fires."

The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 11 calls to the blaze.

The Brigade was called at 1056 and the fire was under control by 1212. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Chiswick, Acton, Hammersmith and Richmond fire stations were at the scene.
