Firefighters rescued a puppy who got her head trapped in a fence on Gatley Avenue in West Ewell.
Crews used specialist rescue equipment to free the six-month-old German Shepherd, who had gotten her head stuck in between the bars of a fence. Thankfully, she was returned to her owner safely.
Sub Officer John Griffin said: “The puppy was out for a walk when she began chasing a squirrel across the park at full speed. Whilst the squirrel squeezed through a gap in a fence, the puppy, named Gigi, didn’t.
“Crews spread the bars of the fence using specialist equipment and quickly freed the puppy, returning her safely to her owner.
“Firefighters love animals and we are always happy to assist if our specialist equipment is required, as in this case.
“We would always encourage people to call the RSPCA in the first instance if they see an animal stuck or in distress.”
The Brigade was called at 1355 and the incident was over for firefighters by 1416. Fire crews from Surbiton Fire Station attended the scene.
