Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Tabernacle Gardens in Hackney.
A bin storage room on the ground floor was destroyed by the fire. One man left the building before the Brigade arrived and was treated by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade received 14 calls about the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 0739 and the fire was under control by 0841. Fire crews from Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green, Islington and Dowgate fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
