Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Rainham Road South in Dagenham.
A small part of a three-roomed flat on the first floor was damaged by the fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from the first floor. She was treated on scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews and taken to hospital.
The Brigade was called at 0349 and the fire was under control by 0431. Fire crews from Dagenham fire station were at the scene.
