Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a bakery with flats above on Rushey Green in Catford.

Most of a bakery on the ground floor of the building was damaged by fire. One person left the building before the Brigade arrived and a further two people on the second floor of the building left the property. There were no reports of any injuries.

The alarm was raised by a resident from an above flat who saw smoke passing his kitchen window and coming through his floor.

The Brigade was called at 0630 and the fire was under control by 0750. Fire crews from Forest Hill, Lewisham, Greenwich and Lee Green fire stations attended the scene.

The Brigade’s Fire Investigators believe the cause of the fire was accidental and involved a fridge freezer.
