Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat and adjacent garage on Upper Park Road in Southgate.
A large pile of rubbish in a disused car park was alight. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one man from an adjacent garage who was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews and taken to hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.
The Brigade was called at 1910 and the fire was under control by 2146. Fire crews from Southgate and Finchley fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
