Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a blaze at a disused golf clubhouse on Garrison Lane in Chessington.
The fire was discovered when a passer by noticed flames coming from the roof of the building. They called 999 and it was the first of 18 calls to the visible blaze.
A single-storey building was destroyed by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1818 and the fire was under control by 2140. Fire engines from Surbiton, New Malden, Kingston and Wimbledon fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service.
