Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a shop with flats above on Park Parade in Harlesden.

The whole of a one-roomed first floor flat was destroyed by fire. One man was rescued by crews via a short extension ladder. He suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service. One woman also suffering from smoke inhalation was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

Station Commander Peter Johnson was at the scene and said: “Fortunately, an internal fire door in the flat was kept shut. This certainly helped to prevent the fire spreading throughout the rest of the building to other flats. It’s always a good idea to shut doors, as in the event of a fire this can help to protect property from further damage.”

The Brigade was called at 0726 and the incident was under control by 0831. Fire crews from  North Kensington, Willesden, Park Royal, Acton and Wembley fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire in under investigation by London Fire Brigade and the Met police.
