Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a shop and flats on Green Street in Upton Park.
Around 19 people left the building before the Brigade arrived and part of a split level flat on the ground floor was damaged by the fire. Two children were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1334 and the fire was under control by 1438. Fire crews from Plaistow, Stratford, East Ham and Leytonstone fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
