Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a pub with a hostel above on Deptford Church Street in Deptford.
Part of the basement of the four-storey building was damaged by fire. Around 30 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. One man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 0302 and the fire was under control by 0523. Fire crews from Deptford, Greenwich, East Greenwich, New Cross and Lewisham fire stations attended the scene.
The Brigade’s Fire Investigators believe the fire was caused by a faulty tumble dryer.
