Firefighters rescued an injured man from a warehouse under renovation on Fortress Grove in Kentish Town.
The man suffered a head injury after a piece of concrete fell from a ceiling. Around eight firefighters used specialist rope equipment to bring the man down from a mezzanine level in a single-storey warehouse. The man was then removed to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
Station Officer Andrew Cuthbert, who was at the scene, said: “The man was working in the warehouse to remove concrete from the ceiling, when a piece of concrete fell on him.
“Firefighters worked hard to rescue the injured man from the mezzanine level. They were able to adapt their rescue operation to ensure the man was removed safely.
“The Brigade doesn’t just deal with fires, our crews are also equipped and trained to deal with all sorts of emergencies including rescuing people by using ropes. We have around 50 incidents a year which involve our rope rescue teams and sometimes the best way to carry out a rescue is by using ropes to raise or lower people.”
The Brigade was called at 1334 and the incident was over by 1516. Firefighters from Kentish Town and two fire rescue units from Paddington and East Ham fire stations were at the scene.
