Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at an end-of-terrace house on Evesham Road in Stratford.

A bedroom at the front of the house on the first floor was destroyed by fire and most of the first floor was damaged by heat and smoke. Part of the loft space of the house was also damaged by the blaze. One man left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The fire was discovered by a resident, who noticed smoke coming from around the door of the front bedroom. They left the house and called the Brigade.

“It is vitally important that you do not attempt to tackle fires yourselves and to leave it to the professionals. The quicker you call us, the quicker we can send fire engines to an incident.

“As soon as you become aware of a fire in your property, get out, stay out and call 999.”

The Brigade was called at 0706 and the fire was under control by 0809. Fire crews from Stratford, Plaistow, Leytonstone and Leyton fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire has been recorded as undetermined.
