Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a shop with flats above on Oxlow Lane in Dagenham.
The ground floor of the shop was destroyed by the fire along with a canopy at the front of the building. Part of a first floor flat and the roof fascia were also damaged by the blaze. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took seven calls to the fire.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “ On arrival crews saw smoke and flames coming from the shop's external electrical sign and the grocery display stand below.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus carried out a search of the flat above the shop to make sure that everyone was safely out. Thankfully, no one was hurt.”
The Brigade was called at 0051 and the fire was under control by 0153. Fire crews from Dagenham and Ilford fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
