Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended a fire in the basement of a house on Bedfordbury in Covent Garden.
A small area of the basement in the mid-terraced house was damaged by fire. The rest of the basement was damaged by the smoke.
The owner of the property discovered the fire when they heard a loud bang and saw smoke issuing from the basement. They alerted family members and they all left the property before the Brigade arrived.
A man working in the basement also left the property before the Brigade arrived. He was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews suffering smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital.
The Brigade was called at 1206 and the fire was under control by 1308. Fire crews from Soho and Lambeth fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and caused by an electrical fault.
