Two fire engines and around ten firefighters have been called to a fire at a house on Morton Way in Southgate.
Part of the ground floor and half of the stairs were destroyed by fire in a two storey house.
Crews in breathing apparatus rescued a dog from the house who was found unconscious and not breathing inside the property. Firefighters successfully managed to revive him.
Sub Officer Adam Gottlieb attended the scene, he said: “Crews found the small dog passed out at the back door on the ground floor. The room was completely smoke logged and there were no signs of life from the pet. Crews used oxygen and administered CPR. After prolonged efforts they managed to revive him.”
“The incident shows how crews can use first aid training and equipment in order help save an animal’s life. This was an extremely unusual incident. With more than 70 years of service between my colleagues and I, we’ve never had to perform CPR on an animal. We were all very relieved and extremely happy to see this family pet back on his paws.”
The Brigade was called at 1251 and the fire was under control by 1334. Crews from Finchley and Southgate fire stations were at the scene.
