Fire at underground car park – Notting Hill

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire in an underground car park on Westbourne Park Road in Notting Hill.

Part of the car park below a residential block of flats was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

The alarm was raised when a member of the public noticed smoke coming from the basement area and called 999.

Leading Firefighter Terry Roots, who was at the scene, said: “We arrived to find one of the garage units in the basement below a block of flats alight.

“There was heavy smoke affecting the flats above and crews worked incredibly hard to contain the fire and stop it from spreading further, before ventilating the property.”

The Brigade was called at 2259 and the fire was under control by 0000. Fire crews from North Kensington, Kensington and Paddington fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under has been recorded as undetermined.
