Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Springfield Avenue in Haringey.
Firefighters tackled a blaze in a first floor five-roomed flat within a semi-detached house. The fire caused significant damage to the first floor flat and loft conversion. An aerial appliance was used to gain access to the roof and tackle the fire from above. Sadly one woman has died at the scene.
Residents in the adjacent property were advised to leave by the Brigade as a precaution.
The Brigade was called at 0633 and the fire was under control by 0927. Firefighters from Hornsey, Holloway, Finchley and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade.
