Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a house fire on Alberta Road in Erith.
The roof of a semi-detached house was destroyed by fire. Two adults and two children left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “On arrival, crews saw smoke coming from the roof of the property and found the residents already outside.
“The residents were alerted to the fire by a member of the public, they then smelt burning and left the building promptly.
“It is vitally important that you do not attempt to tackle fires yourselves and to leave it to the professionals. The quicker you call us, the quicker we can send fire engines to an incident.
“As soon as you become aware of a fire in your property, get out, stay out and call 999.”
The Brigade was called at 0743 and the fire was under control by 1031. Fire crews from Bexley, Erith and Plumstead fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and involved a halogen light in the bathroom.
