Control officers gave fire survival guidance advice to a family trapped by fire in a house converted into flats on Wakefield Road in Tottenham.

The Brigade was called by a man who was with his two children and could not leave their split level flat because of a fire outside their door. Control officers advised the family to go up to the first floor, close the doors, place towels down to stop smoke entering and open the windows. They stayed on the phone with the caller until firefighters arrived.

Firefighters dealt with the small fire on the ground floor and led the family to safety. The man and two children were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade was called at 2323 and the fire was under control by 0004. Fire crews from Tottenham, Walthamstow and Stoke Newington fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by police and fire officers.
