Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a house fire on Jonquil Gardens in Hampton.

The first floor of the mid-terraced house was destroyed by the fire and part of the roof was damaged. One man left the property before the Brigade arrived. He was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Station Commander Tom Conlon, who was at the scene, said: "Firefighters worked hard to tackle the blaze and stop it spreading through the roof and into adjoining properties.

"Their actions meant the fire was contained and the damage was limited to one house."

The Brigade was called at 1416 and the fire was under control by 1526. Fire crews from Twickenham, Feltham and Surbiton fire stations were at the scene as well as colleagues from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
