Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a house fire on Vanbrugh Park in Blackheath.

Part of the basement of a semi-detached house was damaged by fire. One woman left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

Leading Firefighter Mark Ryan, who was at the scene, said: "On arrival, we could see light smoke coming from the front door which was open.

"Crews faced very challenging conditions, with poor visibility as they entered the basement and located the fire under the stairs."

The Brigade was called at 1234 and the fire was under control by 1412. Fire crews from East Greenwich, Greenwich, Lee Green and Deptford fire stations attended the scene.

The Brigade's Fire Investigators believe the fire was accidental and involved a tumble drier.
