Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a workshop fire on Sprowston Mews in Forest Gate.
A small part of a single-storey workshop was damaged by fire. One man left the building before the Brigade arrived and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
Sub Officer Bob Green, who was at the scene, said: “We were called to reports of a garage alight and on arrival discovered a fire at a single-storey workshop.
“Crews gained access through an alleyway at the side of the workshop and worked incredibly quickly to bring the fire under control. All the occupants were out of the building before the Brigade arrived and one man was taken to hospital.”
The Brigade was called at 2357 and the fire was under control by 0046. Fire crews from Stratford, Leytonstone and Plaistow fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
