Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a construction site on Victoria Embankment in Blackfriars.
An industrial compressor inside a shipping container was destroyed by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
Station Commander Ned Alexander, who was at the scene, said: “On arrival, crews discovered an industrial compressor alight inside a shipping container.
“The shipping container was located in a shaft around 10 metres below ground level but in open air. Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control and minimise any disruption to the local area.”
The Brigade was called at 1831 and the fire was under control by 1951. Fire crews from Soho, Battersea, Dowgate and Lambeth fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
