Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a vacant shop on Oxford Street.

A small part of the ground floor of the six-storey building was damaged by the blaze. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade was called at 0737 and the fire was under control by 0829. Fire crews from Soho, Paddington, Lambeth and Dowgate fire stations were at the scene.

The Brigade's fire investigators believe the fire was accidental and caused by a defect within a rechargeable battery which was on charge at the time.
