Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a waste transfer station site on Jeffreys Road in Enfield.

Part of a conveyor belt used for waste transfer was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “A member of staff discovered the fire after hearing a crackling noise. They then saw thick smoke and left the building after alerting another member of staff.

“A conveyor belt associated with a shredding machine was damaged.”

The Brigade was called at 1548 and the fire was under control by 1803. Fire crews from Enfield, Chingford, Edmonton, Woodford and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene.

The Brigade’s Fire Investigators believe the fire was accidental and caused by hot works being carried out.
