House fire - Tooting

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a house fire on Selkirk Road in Tooting.

Part of the second floor of a mid-terraced house was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

Station Officer Tom Furnell, who was at the scene, said: “On arrival we could see smoke coming from the roof and flames were coming out from a velux window.

“Crews quickly gained access and worked to bring the fire under control and make the scene safe.

“All residents were already out of the building on arrival and crews reassured neighbours and provided fire safety advice to those in the local area. You can take a look at our new online Home Fire Safety Checker to get tailored fire safety advice for your home.”

The Brigade was called at 2202 and the fire was under control by 2258. Fire crews from Tooting, Mitcham and Wimbledon fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is believed have been accidental and involved a light fitting.
