Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a house fire on Manor Road in Stratford.
The roof and the ground and first floors of a two-storey, end-of-terrace house were destroyed by the blaze. A man from an adjacent property left the building before fire crews arrived.
The fire was discovered when neighbours saw smoke in their kitchen followed by their smoke alarms sounding. The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 11 calls to the fire.
The Brigade was called at 2314 and the fire was under control by 0125. Firefighters from Stratford, Plaistow, Poplar, East Ham and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
