Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a restaurant with flats above on Rupert Street in Soho.
A food lift, also known as a dumbwaiter in the industry was destroyed by fire. Part of the kitchen on the first floor was also damaged.
The Brigade believes the fire was accidental and caused by an internal heater that was switched on inside the dumbwaiter, whilst there was cardboard inside.
Five members of staff left the restaurant before the arrival of the Brigade. A number of residents from the flats above also left the building. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1540 and the fire was under control by 1723. Fire crews from Soho, Euston and Lambeth fire stations attended the scene.
