Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a fire in the laundry room of a commercial and residential building on Kilburn High Road in Kilburn.

Half of a laundry room on the ground floor was damaged by fire. Firefighters assisted 10 people to safety. Two men were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews after suffering from smoke inhalation.

The Brigade’s Fire Investigators believe the fire was accidental and involved a tumble dryer.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The fire was discovered when a resident smelt burning plastic in the communal corridor. They then saw flames and smoke through the glass panel of the laundry room door.

“It’s important to make sure you’re aware of white goods safety and to check your appliances.

“If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it. If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.

“Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought.”

The Brigade was called at 1500 and the fire was under control by 1606. Fire crews from West Hampstead and Paddington fire stations attended the scene.
