Firefighters rescued a woman from the first floor window of a house fire on Prince Regent Lane in Plaistow.

The ground floor of a mid-terraced house was destroyed by fire.

The woman was shouting at an open window when fire crews arrived and she was brought down to ground floor level via an extension ladder. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade's Fire Investigators believe the fire was accidental and involved a tumble dryer.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “It’s important to make sure you’re aware of white goods safety and to check your appliances.

“If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it. If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.

“Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought.

“This incident is also a timely reminder to test your smoke alarms. You should have smoke alarms fitted in every room in your home where a fire can start, for example where you have appliances plugged in, and a heat alarm in your kitchen.”

The Brigade was called at 1148 and the fire was under control by 1240. Firefighters from Plaistow, Stratford, Millwall, East Ham, Leytonstone and Shadwell fire stations were at the scene.
