Firefighters tackled a flat fire on Wetherby Gardens in South Kensington.

Part of a three-roomed flat on the third floor of the building was damaged by fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus led a woman to safety from a bedroom who was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. The fire was contained to the bedroom of the flat.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a lamp positioned on a foam mattress which was knocked over. The heat from the lamp then ignited the mattress.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Lightbulbs can get incredibly hot and can set fire to combustible materials.

"It's important to keep them on stable surfaces, away from anything that might catch fire such as books, clothing, sheets and curtains.”

The Brigade was called at 2347 and the fire was under control by 0037. Two fire engines from Chelsea and Fulham fire stations attended the scene.
