Firefighters tackled a fire at an outbuilding on Seaton Road in Hayes.

A small part of a single-storey outbuilding was damaged by fire. Firefighters evacuated around 12 people from surrounding properties. There were no reports of any injuries.

A 25-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution and firefighters removed and cooled two gas cylinders to an ambient temperature as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

The Brigade was called at 2307 and the fire was under control by 0004. Two fire engines from Hayes and Heathrow fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have involved cooking.

 Firefighters’ cooking safety tips

  • Don’t leave cooking unattended on the hob or grill.
  • Never use a barbecue – including disposables – indoors or on your balcony.
  • Be careful where you position your barbecue – we suggest on level ground, well away from anything flammable like sheds, fences, trees, or tents.
  • Don't use petrol, paraffin, or any flammable liquids on your barbecue – firelighters are a much safer option.
  • Not feeling 100 per cent? Order a takeaway – if you're very tired, have been drinking alcohol or are taking medication that might make you drowsy, it's safer not to risk it.
