Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to a pub fire on Orpington High Street.
Half of the roof and a small part of the second floor of a detached, three-storey pub were damaged by fire.
The fire was discovered when a resident in a property on the second floor above the pub heard a fire alarm sounding and on investigation they saw a small fire in the toilet basin. They then noticed a fire in the roof space, observed through a hole where the bathroom extractor fan appeared to have fallen from.
Station Commander Chris Brown, who was at the scene, said: "Firefighters tackled the fire internally and were assisted by an aerial appliance.
"Nine people left the building before the Brigade arrived and were thankfully, all uninjured.
"Crews worked swiftly to bring the fire under control and carry out salvage operations.
"Orpington High Street was closed whilst crews worked to make the scene safe and we urged people to avoid the area."
The Brigade was called at 0730 and the fire was under control by 1045. Fire crews from Sidcup, Orpington, Bromley and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault within a ceiling mounted extractor fan.
