Firefighters have issued a reminder to test your smoke alarms after an incident on Pawsons Road in Croydon.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke coming from an electric heater. There were no reports of any injuries.
Sub Officer Adam Moseley, who was at the scene, said: “There were no working smoke alarms in the property. The flat was filled with smoke on arrival, thankfully the incident occurred just before the residents had gone to bed and no one was hurt.
“Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning to fire, providing time to escape. You should have smoke alarms in every room where a fire could start, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen. It's important to test them regularly.
“Firefighters fitted smoke alarms in the property and gave fire safety advice to the residents. You can take a look at our new online Home Fire Safety Checker to get tailored fire safety advice for your home.”
The Brigade was called at 2200 and the incident was over for firefighters by 2211. Two fire engines from Norbury Fire Station attended the scene.
