Sadly a woman has died following a flat fire on Provost Street in Shoreditch.
Part of a flat on the first floor was damaged by the blaze. Firefighters found the body of the woman in the bedroom. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A number of people self-evacuated the block while other residents remained inside their unaffected flats.
The Brigade was called at 2013 and the fire was under control by 2144. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Shoreditch, Islington, Whitechapel, Dowgate, Euston and Shadwell attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
