Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a garage fire on Sadler Close in Mitcham.
Two garages on the ground floor of a block of flats were alight. One garage was destroyed by fire and part of the second garage was also damaged by the blaze. Around 50 residents were out of the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers gave fire survival guidance to residents on the third floor of the building on how to stay safe before firefighters arrived.
The Brigade was called at 0252 and the fire was under control by 0351. Fire crews from Mitcham, Wimbledon, Tooting, Norbury and Sutton fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
