Firefighters have issued a cooking safety reminder after a flat fire on Bloemfontein Road in Shepherd’s Bush.
Part of a four-roomed flat on the first floor of the building was damaged by fire. A woman and a child left the building before the Brigade arrived and were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a chip pan catching alight.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Chip pans and cooking with hot oil can be really dangerous and the risk increases when you start frying food more than once.
“All it can take is for you to become distracted for a few seconds and your cooking oil can quickly go up in flames.
"Cooking should never be left unattended on the hob or grill - if you have to leave the kitchen, turn off the heat."
The Brigade was called at 1835 and the fire was under control by 1920. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Hammersmith, Acton, Chiswick and Kensington fire stations attended the scene.
