Firefighters tackled a fire at a landfill site on Launders Lane in Rainham.
There were multiple seats of fire among an area of fly-tipped waste. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1543 and the fire was under control by 0245. At the height of the incident, eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters from Barking, Ilford, Plaistow, Hainault and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.
