Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a flat fire on South Quay Square on the Isle of Dogs.
Part of the decking on the balcony of a flat on the 11th floor of the building was damaged by fire. One man left the property before the Brigade arrived and was treated on scene after suffering from smoke inhalation.
The Brigade was called at 0935 and the fire was under control by 1025. Fire crews from Millwall, Poplar, Shadwell and Plaistow fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
