Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a block of maisonettes on Wotton Green in Orpington.
A bin shed on the ground floor was destroyed and part of the ground, first, second and third floors of the building were damaged by fire. A third-floor roof was also destroyed by the blaze, as well as a small part of a fourth-floor roof. The first floor of an adjacent end-of-terraced house was damaged by radiating heat. Around 20 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 44 calls to the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1635 and the fire was under control by 1819. Fire crews from Bexley, Plumstead, Addington, Bromley, Orpington and Sidcup fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
