Firefighters rescued a man from a fire at a maisonette on Harrington Gardens in South Kensington.
The first floor of a split-level maisonette was destroyed by fire and part of the ground floor was also damaged by the blaze. One man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
Station Commander Chris Davidson, who was at the scene, said: “Firefighters rescued a man from a first-floor balcony using one the Brigade’s new 32-metre turntable ladders.
“Crews remained on scene through the night damping down.”
The Brigade was called at 2202 and the fire was under control by 2232. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Kensington, Chelsea, Fulham, Hammersmith, Battersea and Soho fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
