Sadly, a man has died following a fire at a flat on Gilbert Street in Stratford.
Part of a four-roomed flat on the first floor of the building was damaged by fire. Firefighters found a man in the bedroom who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The Brigade was called at 0951 and the fire was under control by 1038. Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Leytonstone, Stratford and Leyton fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
