Firefighters rescued a man from a flat fire on Netherwood Street in West Hampstead.
Half of a four-roomed flat on the first floor of the building was damaged by fire. Crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from the flat who was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “On arrival, firefighters could see the fire visible behind the window to the rear of the flat. They entered the property and quickly located and rescued a person in the bedroom.
“This incident is a reminder of just how important it is to have working smoke alarms in your home. There were no smoke alarms fitted in the property. Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts. We encourage everyone to have smoke alarms fitted in every room where a fire could start, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen. It’s important to test them regularly.”
The Brigade was called at 0237 and the fire was under control by 0338. Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from West Hampstead and Willesden fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
