Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to a grass fire on Lambs Lane North in Rainham.
Around three hectares of grass, shrubs and bushes was destroyed by fire. Around 60 people were evacuated from a cricket pavilion as a precaution.
The Brigade was called at 1630 and the incident was over by 1815. Fire crews from Harold Hill, East Ham, Dagenham, Hornchurch, Barking, Ilford, Plaistow, Poplar, Stratford and Bexley fire stations were in attendance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
