Grass fire - Woolwich

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a grass fire on Woolwich Common in Woolwich. 

Firefighters tackled a blaze where around two hectares of shrubland were on fire and destroyed. 

The Brigade's Control Office received 48 calls about the fire. 

The Brigade was called at 1618 and the fire was under control by 1744. Fire crews from Plumstead, Eltham, Lee Green and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene. 

Firefighters will remain at the scene for the next few hours to dampen down the area.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.
