Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a house fire on Bulstrode Road in Hounslow.
The staircase in a semi-detached house was destroyed by the fire and the ground and first floor were damaged. There were no reports of any injuries.
Station Commander Chris Davidson, who was at the scene, said: "Crews worked hard in challenging conditions to contain the fire to the house of origin.
"The road was closed while firefighters carried out their work and they remained on scene damping down for some time."
The Brigade was called at 2128 and the fire was under control by 2304. Fire crews from Feltham, Heston and Wembley fire stations were at the scene.
The fire is believed to have been electrical.
