Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a flat above an office on New North Street in Holborn.
Part of the third and fourth floors of a split-level flat were damaged by fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man via an internal staircase who was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1204 and the fire was under control by 1334. Fire crews from Islington, Lambeth, Whitechapel, Dockhead, Soho and Bethnal Green fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
